Use your senses. This should take 30 – 60 seconds.

Step 1: Close your eyes. Slowly and deeply breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Step 2: Notice five sounds around you. Be patient and search for them. Name each one and pay attention to its nuance, such as pitch, reverb, tone, etc. For example, a baby crying, the hum of the lights, the steps of those backstage.

Step 3: Notice at least one smell. The fabric smell of the stage curtain? The starch from your shirt? Name each one.

Step 4: Repeat the first sentence of your speech in your mind. After repeating it five times, open your eyes.

Step 5: Give the best speech ever.
